Elizabeth Bruce

Elizabeth co-founded the MIT Big Data Initiative based in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL).  Launched in 2012, the MIT Big Data Initiative is driving innovation by bringing together researchers and collaborators in industry and government to develop new technologies needed to solve next generation data challenges. 

Elizabeth's expertise is in identifying emerging technologies and developing industry-university collaborations to bridge the gap between research and commercialization.  Elizabeth joined MIT CSAIL in May 2008 as Director of Industry Partnerships and helped to establish and lead the CSAIL Industry Affiliates Program.  Elizabeth has over a decade of experience at MIT working with faculty to lead new research initiatives and develop strategic partnerships with industry covering topics in big data, mobile, cloud computing, health, manufacturing, communications and security.   Elizabeth has held strategic management and consulting positions in industry, including at Analog Devices Inc., Battelle and the Aberdeen Group.  Trained as an engineer, Elizabeth holds a Masters degree from MIT in Ocean Engineering and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.  In her free time, Elizabeth loves to travel and climb mountains.
