Miao Xu

Dr. Miao Xu is currently Associate Professor, and Vice Dean of Urban Planning at Chongqing University. She has wide interests in contemporary urbanism and especially aspects of community planning, urban form, urban design, and architecture. Presently, she is particularly interested in the issues of design control policy of urban space, the privatization and pseudo-public urban space phenomenon such as gated community and gentrification, the socio-spatial sustainability of community development, especially in affordable housing. These researches have widely referred to the discourses in community planning, architectural humanity and urban sociology. She has currently been working on several research projects founded by the national and provincial governments, and by the Ministry of Education. She has published over 20 papers on core national and international academic journals, winning two thesis awards given by joint board of Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and Association of European Schools of Planning, and International Planning History Society respectively. And she is one of the drafters of a provincial specification for low-carbon community design.
