Affordable Housing Workshops

During January (IAP) three workshop kicked off further explorations of affordable housing internationally. Marie Law Adams and Adele Santos led a group of students from the departments of Architecture and Urban Studies and Planing to Georgetown, Guyana. With support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and in collaboration with the University of Guyana the workshop has explored aspects of public infrastructure flooding, and community development as they relate to housing in the neighborhood of Sophia. A second workshop led by Sheila Kennedy, in collaboration with Intercorp Peru Ltd and La Victoria Lab, has been documenting and exploring infrastructural ecologies in Lima, Peru, whilst the third workshop returned to Chitravad, Gujarat in India to continue their planning and design of disaster resilient housing. This final workshop was led by Lorena Bello and James Wescoat, and was undertaken with support from MIT- India Program, Aga Khan Program in Islamic Architecture and Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism.
