A participatory architectural installation created by a team from MIT — including faculty, students, PhD’s, researchers, and more — is nominated for the ArchDaily’s Small Scale & Installations Award 2023.
Sueños con Fiber/Timber, Earth/Concrete was exhibited at Mextrópoli Architecture and City Festival in fall 2022 and unfolds stories about Mexico City through four materials: paper, wood, earth, and concrete. Through its critical adaptation of traditional uses of these materials, this installation invites visitors to recognize Mexico City’s histories and imagine new possibilities. The installation was a collaboration between Sarah Williams, Caitlin Mueller, Rafi Segal, and Marisa Morán Jahn, students, researchers and staff from MIT’s Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, Mota-Engil. and community partners New Story and Échale, together with Manufactura, Anfora Studio, and Formas de Fibra de Vidrio.
