Ata Chokhachian

Senior Research Associate

Ata Chokhachian is a research scientist, educator, and advisor specializing in urban climate and environmental performance at the intersection of research and practice. His work focuses on the development of computational workflows, sensing technologies, and analytical tools that capture fine-scale environmental dynamics and translate them into actionable, climate-responsive design and planning strategies. He is the co-founder of Climateflux, a research-to-practice platform that collaborates with cities, designers, and public agencies to support heat action planning in response to extreme heat.

Chokhachian earned his PhD from the Technical University of Munich in 2022. From 2023 to 2025, he was a postdoctoral researcher at MIT's Sustainable Design Lab, supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He has led and contributed to interdisciplinary projects across Europe, North America, and the Global South, integrating urban microclimate modeling, high-resolution field measurements, and human comfort assessment frameworks to inform equitable, sustainable, and people-centered urban transformations.
