MIT-India Urban Lab

The LCAU, with support from Vice Provost & Professor Brent Ryan and Professor Bish Sanyal, is leading efforts to launch new research through the MIT-India Urban Lab (MIUL). The Lab focuses on fostering equitable urban environments by addressing systemic inequalities and promoting inclusive practices in housing and community development. Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration, the Lab seeks to bridge gaps in access to quality housing, economic opportunity, and social equity, particularly for marginalized and underrepresented communities.
A key project of the Lab involves studying the intersection of housing policies and racial equity, with a goal of creating frameworks that cities can adopt to ensure fair access to housing. By leveraging tools like urban design, policy analysis, and social engagement, MIUL develops actionable solutions to tackle issues such as displacement, gentrification, and the wealth gap.
